Curated by Erin Cristovale, the show is a must-visit-repeatedly type experience. @blackgirlsinartspaces hosted a meet up and private tour which of course I loved. Clearly, cuz I came with all the questions. Live performances weekly on Sundays, this museum is a local, FREE, gem.

As part of the PST ART: Art & Science Collide festival, @robertsprojects hosts LA icon, Betye Saar’s Mojotech, an instillation created during Saar’s 1987 residency at MIT’s List Visual Arts Center. How lucky for us to be able to experience it again in the 21st century!

Whoops! Well looks like my draft posted without any context. My resolution a few years back was: to see as many shows featuring living artists as possible each year. Why? Because this student of history needs to be reminded to live in the present! Don’t be confused by the candid photo in front of the Calders. We were at @sfmoma to check out the @asherald show and all I can say is: no number of pixels can convey the sheer magic of the technique on display here. A Mylar ballon looked reflective! And this is “just” using paint and know how. A genius for our generation. And how lucky we are to be able to see her art nationwide.

New show at @lacma - Imagining Black Diasporas - many steps before a seat is found. So many pieces called me to stop and stare, but alas, that’s a lot for my feet to bear. Bring back the museum bench, SVP. Anyone else noticed the need for benches and seating at their museums?

Find a print work or sculpture that you like.
Find an internationally based gallery you liked the work of and get their card. [Then let’s go visit it.]
Visit the emerging galleries space at the far side of the show.
Check out NADA. Those are the emerging art dealers who will eventually make it to the Basel floor.
Go to an artist talk. They’re fun.
If you see an artist you like selling their catalog, buy it and have them sign it for you.
Meet a stranger and talk with them about their experiences.

Frank Lloyd Wright designed several homes in Los Angeles during his lifetime. The Hollyhock House in the Barnsdall Art Park is his first. Situated atop a hill with sweeping views, this home features what he viewed as Mayan architectural features. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, many rooms are still closed to the public for accessibility issues and restoration. Definitely worth the admission fee for the environment alone. Would you want an architect-designed house? FLWs famously are terrible to maintain, energy inefficient and designed often to his whims and not to the liking of the homeowner. Nevertheless they’re great historic sites to experience.

Fui a visitar el estudio de M.A. cuando estaba viviendo a CDMX. Ellas tenia una oportunidad a pintar una mascara para llevar a casa - y me sentí la temptacion a pregunatarles a hacerlo para mi. Porque quien soy yo? Abogada que necesitaba hacer cursos extras para "pass" mi clase de arte - jaja. Gracias a las mujeres del estudio para mostrarme que puedo hacerlo mimismo. (como siempre, estas son escritos sin usando un app or diccionario. Disculpeme porque estoy tratando de hablar desde mi memoria imperfecta. XO)
